About

Goodbye Machiavelli is about exploring technology, innovation and leadership trends in an ever increasingly online world. Why the name? Well lets just say that "the prince's" methods are out of place in the new workplace.

The Beginning of the End for the Land Line?

Recently, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) reported that increasing numbers of younger Australians are not signing up for fixed line telephone services when they leave home. The research showed that 79% of 18-24 year olds preferred to use mobile phones rather than fixed lines, and a very high penetration rate (95%) of mobile phones in the 25-35 year old demographic.

So is this the beginning of the end for the fixed line telephone? Personally, a quick informal poll amongst my network would suggest that younger people prefer to only have a mobile phone - with the fixed line being seen as less and less relevant and an unnecessary expense.

Would you consider dropping the fixed home phone line? And does that present any problems? What about Pizza delivery?
